Frequent Asked Questions

How many people are in a group?
Trek Italia groups have a maximum of 10 people. The group will be accompanied by one or sometimes two tour leaders.

Are there any age restrictions?
Our average traveller is between 23 and 35 years old. Of course our tours are open to anyone of any age, all we ask is that you are young at heart! Age, after all, is just a number…

I don’t want to travel in a group – do you have tours for individuals?
Our set itineraries are designed for our small groups. If you would like to travel alone, or you already have a group ready to travel and you would like us to organise a personal tour for you, we can do that too. We can arrange one of our existing itineraries on the dates you want - or you can send us your interests and timeframe, and we will create a customised land itinerary for you in Trek Italia style. You can choose to have one of our tour leaders along to accompany you in a Trek Italia vehicle, or you can travel independently – either way, your trip will be a unique experience making the best possible value of your time and money. Have a look at our Tailor Made page on the website.

How do I book?
Our Booking page contains all our Terms and Conditions which you should read before booking. Then just contact us via the Booking page and we will confirm the availability of the tour you have chosen. Once we receive your deposit for the tour, we will send you all further documentation and information you need.

Why are your prices so low?
Unlike the mass-tourism companies who negotiate their savings by sheer volume of passengers, we keep our costs down by staying small - we are a family-run company and as such have very low overheads. The small group size enables us to gain some leverage on negotiations with our local operators, and these savings are ultimately passed down to you. We don’t charge a single supplement – which keeps prices down for single travellers. Trek Italia is Italian – we have an extensive network of local contacts here in Italy and we know how to get you the best value for your money.

Do I need a visa to travel in Italy?
You must carry a valid passport and have obtained the appropriate visas when travelling with Trek Italia. It is your responsibility to ensure that you are in possession of the correct visas, if any, for your holiday. Our travellers are of many different nationalities – please contact your nearest Italian embassy for visa information for your country.

Do I need vaccinations to travel in Italy?
Please contact your family doctor or nearest Italian embassy for the most up to date information on health issues in Italy.

Do I need to be very fit to join a Trek Italia tour?
No. None of our included activities are strenuous – but if you want to head off into the hills on a mountain bike optional activity, you can do that too.
The only thing we ask is that for insurance purposes any Clients with pre-existing medical conditions will complete a Trek Italia medical form which must be signed and dated by a physician and returned with your final payment or you will not be permitted to travel. If you have a pre-existing medical condition, you must inform Trek Italia at time of booking request – we will send you a medical form to complete.
There are no specific health requirements for this itinerary. For legal reasons our tour leaders are prohibited from administering any medicine or drug including painkillers.

Can I use a debit or credit card during my trip or should I bring cash?
The most convenient way to handle your money is probably a mix of cash and cards. You can withdraw from Bancomat machines (ATM) which are widely available all over Italy and on this itinerary. Bancomat machines can draw directly from your bank account or provide a cash advance on a credit card. You may be required to enter your PIN number when paying with a debit card for goods at shops that use the Chip & Pin system. Don’t forget your PIN! The cheapest way to change cash from other currencies into Euro is at the Post Offices in Italy. Traveller’s Cheques offer security advantages but can be subject to unfavourable exchange rates and are difficult to change on weekends and public holidays.

Can I opt out of things I don’t want to do?
Certainly! We want you to have the trip that you want. All included activities are listed in the Trip Notes for our tours – you can download and print these notes for reference. If you don’t want to participate in any given activity, just let your tour leader know. On the other hand, if there is something you would really like to do or see that isn’t in the included activities, let your tour leader know just the same. We may just be able to arrange something!

I’m travelling alone – can I have a single room?
In a word….no. We don’t charge a single supplement. Trek Italia single travellers are paired up with another traveller(s) of the same sex in twin, triple, or quadruple rooms. We will only use a single room if the particular combination of travellers requires that someone goes in a single, and in this case the single room would be rotated among the group at every change of accommodation so it’s fair to everyone. We figure you won’t be spending much time in your room anyway – there’s too much to do and see outside!

What sort of luggage should I bring?
Pack as lightly as possible. We recommend backpacks or a bag with a shoulder strap. Suitcases, with or without wheels, are not recommended. Please remember that all our luggage has to travel in the minivan with us, so the less luggage we have, the more room for you. You will also need a small daypack for activities and sightseeing.

Can I reserve accommodation the night before or after my tour?
Contact us with your request and we will endeavour to find some pre or post trip accommodation options for you at a reasonable price.

Are airport transfers included?
Contact us with your flights details and we will let you know if we can come pick you up or arrange for someone to do so, and how much it will cost. We will include full details of joining instructions in your pre-departure information pack when you book, so you know what your transfer options are by train, bus or taxi.

Can Trek Italia arrange flights?
No.

Do I need travel insurance?
Travel insurance is compulsory for all Trek Italia travellers, and is a condition of booking with us. Your travel insurance must provide cover against personal accident, medical expenses, emergency repatriation and personal liability. We also recommend it covers cancellation, curtailment and loss of luggage and personal effects. Your group leader is required to view and take details of your insurance policy on Day 1 of your trip. You will not be allowed to join the group without providing the necessary insurance documentation.

What do I need to bring?
A checklist to help you with packing will be sent to you in your pre-departure information pack when you book. Contact us if you have any specific questions.

Is tipping included?
Tipping in Italy is not automatic but for special service tipping is appreciated. In eating places, tipping only applies to waiting staff. There is no need to tip anyone who serves you at a counter. If you think your tour leader or local guide at a site has gone the extra mile, your appreciation in the form of a tip would be appropriate.

Trek Italia will make you as passionate about Italy as we are!
